Hello, and welcome to Hugo Øien´s ancestral site.

My site is based on my closely related family - Øien (Oien) /Altmann and Dalsbø (Dalsbo) /Østensen  (Ostensen) in the Tromsø-region of Northern Norway, but with branches to Switzerland and USA for Øien/Altmann.

You will also find a wide range of inmarried families.

During the last  years Hege Unhjem has joined me making my databse bigger and better. (See some of her art here. )

She has done a great job on the Altmann-family, including finding and getting in contact with relatives in the U.S. and Canada.


For the Altmann families are many names derived from both sources in the close
family and from the booklet "The genus Altmann and the circle around" and with additional help from the database of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) in Salt Lake City, Utah .


The documentation back to Balthasar Altmann (b. 1621), from Ennenda in Switzerland, is reasonably secure. But further back before 1621, data are only fetched from the database Mormon Church, and is therefore somewhat more uncertain

At "Dokumentar" and "Billedgalleri" to the left you will find, in addition to genealogical info, also a lot of info from my anchestors activity at the Arctic Ocean islands (Greenland, Jan Mayen and Bjørnøya / Bear Island) from around  1920-until ca 1945.
